Aims and Objectives
Transitioning from a technical role to a leadership role is one of the biggest, and most challenging leaps you can make in the workplace. Leadership requires a different set of behaviours and a different way of thinking, so it’s now your job to grow and evolve.
This programme of workshops is targeted at individuals who are stepping into leadership roles for the first time. Even for the most gifted individuals, the process of becoming a leader is a challenging, albeit rewarding, journey of continuous learning and self-development. The initial challenge along the path is so fundamental that we often overlook it: becoming a leader for the first time.
This transition has become even more challenging since 2020 and the sudden shift to hybrid and virtual working. The development of trust-building and communications skills have become even more essential in this new working world.
This programme of workshops focuses on some of the key differences between being a team member / technician and leading a team. It looks at the psychological transition and difference in focus and time allocation that new leaders often find most challenging. The workshops are stimulating and aim to engage delegates in varied activities and discussions.
Outcomes
By the end of the programme, delegates will be able to step into a leadership role with confidence, self-awareness and the skills needed to be a successful leader.
By the end of the programme, delegates will have:
Identified their expectations and the expectations of others regarding your new role as a leader.
Identified some of the most significant mindset changes they will be required to make when stepping up from a technician to leader.
Reviewed the functional, technical and leadership skills leaders are expected to demonstrate and identified their greatest development needs.
Developed some of the core leadership skills required to be successful.
Identified (and discussed with colleagues) the emotional challenges associated with the transition into a leadership role.
Created an action plan to set you up for success as a manager.
Hosting Mode
The course will be a series of online workshops lasting 3 hours. Delegates will be in a cohort of fellow learners with the intention that they will remain and learn together throughout the programme.
