What This Course Covers
This e-learning course brings the profession of Supportability Engineering into the classroom.
This course is not a “memory test” for Students, it is the opposite. It is about learning by practical application, using the resources they have created. It has been designed to accommodate a range of academic capabilities by using “step-by-step” methods, worked examples and practical exercises.
This course gives Students a meaningful opportunity to put their academic knowledge and abilities into practice, to learn and understand the fundamentals of Supportability Engineering and its importance in Systems Engineering.
They will make their own notes and use a spreadsheet to create their own data. They will then use this data to complete practical exercises and answer questions in the quizzes.
To consolidate what they have learnt from the course, there is a Course Final Quiz. This quiz is graded and on completion Students will be given a certificate of completion.
Students should be competent in the rules of ordering in mathematics (BODMAS).
Students will need to use a spreadsheet program, such as Microsoft® Excel or Apple Numbers®.
A Spreadsheet Workbook will be provided for Students to download before they commence the course.
Course Subjects
The activities of Supportability Engineering are "system life cycle" orientated, from system concept to environmental disposal.
The focus of this course is to introduce the fundamentals of Supportability Engineering, essential to the System design process.
The course subjects are:
Systems,
System Effectiveness,
Reliability,
Maintainability,
Logistic Delay Time,
System Availability,
Provisioning of System Spares,
An introduction to Failure Modes Effects Analysis,
An introduction to Failure.
Each subject is discussed sequentially, so what is learnt in one Module leads on to the next.
For example, Students will need to learn how to calculate Reliability, Maintainability and Logistic Delay Time before they can understand and successfully calculate System Availability.
Course Structure
The Course is hosted on a Learning Management System (LMS). Students access the Course using an encrypted User ID and Login. The LMS monitors a Student's progress and can issue periodic, customised status reports to Student organisations.
The Course is modular, comprising 15 Modules. It offers flexible learning by allowing Students to complete the Course over a period of time, Module by Module, rather than in one continuous period of study.
Modules 1 to 14 contain the course subject matter divided into "easy-to-learn" Topics.
Module 15 is the Course Final Quiz.
Students access the Course Modules in sequence (Module 1 to 15).
Completed Modules can be accessed at any time, giving Students the opportunity to revise and consolidate a Course subject.
Students navigate through Topics sequentially.
